A  idea general

B.  las ideas fundamentales de nuestro música

C. El trabajo de cada instrumento

D. Los Señales

 A - idea general

dissonance is our friend!!!
Idea - to create music directly from the words of a poem. The words or short phrases will be presented one at a time.

A - general idea

B. fundamentals Ideas of our music

C. instrument roles

D. signals

A - general idea

- try to forget any traditional relationships of notes, scales and tonal centers and view each group of notes as colors, emotions and pure sounds that can be used to best describe each word in a musical setting.

-instead of being written down in music notation, the notes are being presented to you in word form.

ex. ExtAsis            BorrAbC#ho

-the bigger and italicized letters are the notes that can be used to create melodies and backgrounds

-notes can be played in any octave and can be repeated as many times as you wish.

- Try to honestly recreate the meaning that the word has for you when using the notes to create melodies and backgrounds

B. fundamental ideas of our music

1. melody

-using the notes that are presented to you create a repetitive and simple melody that best  describes the emotion of the word for you.

- repeat the same melody with slight variations until you are asked to stop.

-keep repeating the notes from your word even after the band has moved on to the next word.

2. improvised solos
- the soloist should use all notes, all sounds and  all of his knowledge to best describe the emotion of the words and poem for him.
-The soloist can take as long or as short of a solo as he wishes.

3. backgrounds
-short, simple melodies that are repeated.
-as the melodies are combined, more complex layers are created
-the simpler the better
-if you are called to play at the same time as someone else, work with them.

C. Instrument roles

1. Drums and percussion
-unless you are the soloist, always create a rhythmic foundation that is always with a steady pulse.
-try to make no sudden changes. Increase or decrease intensities gradually...
-groove is #1

2. Guitar and Piano
- harmony(con mucho cuidado)
-using your knowledge of harmony, harmonize the notes presented by the word to best describe the emotion of the word for you.
-Try to leave as much space as possible for the other musicians.
-work together or separately
-as more and more backgrounds are added, less harmony will be needed.
-doubling backgrounds is always an option.

3. Bass and Horns
- think and play together
- unite to become an ensemble

D. Signals

I will have 3 different physical sighs that I will hold up before pointing to musicians to start playing.

M  will mean create melody

S will mean take a solo. The soloist should stand up and come to the front of the group if they are able to move with there instrument.

B will mean create a background
